I. Title Of Competition:
Spoken Word Poetry is a performance art that is word-based. It is meant to be spoken or recited with emotion to an audience. It is an oral art that focuses on the art of wordplay, rhythm, improvisation, intonation, and voice inflection.

III. Mechanics and Guidelines

- The contest is open for all the students of Baliwag Polytechnic College, from all institutions and departments, even Senior High School. Each participating institution/ department shall be allowed with 2 entries only.
- The spoken word poetry piece must be an original composition, written in Filipino or English but NOT in Taglish.
- During the contest proper, the specific topic for Spoken Word Poetry will be announced 15minutes before the performance.
- The 15 minutes will be the time for them to write a 3-5 minute piece and conceptualize their own thoughts and words in line with the topic. No deduction shall be made if the contestants finish the delivery in less than the maximum time frame. 5 points deduction for every minute overtime.
- The piece must be related to this year’s Book Week theme and must not contain any malicious and offensive content.
- The author of the piece should deliver his/her composition.
- The spoken poetry may be delivered from memory or with a copy at hand.
- Sounds, instruments, or musical background is encouraged and allowed to complement the delivery. No deduction shall be made if the contestant opts not to have a musical background.
- Attire appropriate for the spoken piece shall be worn during the contest.
- Faculty and Admin members of the Baliwag Polytechnic College are not allowed to join the contest.
- Winners will receive a cash prize and certificate of participation.
- Aspiring contestants shall register through the given link below. Committees confirmation will be sent to the approved contestants for further information.
- The number of contestants shall be limited to twelve (12).

IV. Criteria for Judging
The contestants will be judged using the following criteria:
Message – 30%
- The content of the spoken piece is relevant to the theme.
- The piece has a powerful and meaningful message to the audience.
Originality – 30%
- The piece must be an original composition by the contestant.
- The piece was effectively recited from memory
- Freestyle or improvising was spontaneous even if a word or line was forgotten.
Performance – 20%
- Eye contact pulled the audience to the message of the spoken words.
- Audience attention and interest were captured and sustained throughout the delivery.
- The spoken piece is delivered from the heart.
- Facial expression, hand and body gestures that emphasize the different elements of the performance.
Delivery – 10%
- Pronunciation is clear. Audience can understand what is being spoken.
- Words are pronounced distinctly and correctly. Does not stutter or stammer.
- Pronunciation and intonation sound natural.
Overall Impact – 10%
- The performer’s physical appearance, voice and articulation, dramatic appropriateness, and evidence of understanding all seem on target and unified to breathe life into the piece.
- Total success of the performance, the degree to which the performance has become more than the sum of its parts.
- Positive online comments and or reactions solicited from viewers.
