Digital Declamation Contest

Digital Declamation Contest is a public speaking event that showcases student declaimers’ communication prowess in interpreting a literary piece, thereby providing the audience with a direct experience of the craft that will be hold online using social media platform such as Google Meet and FB Live.

Mechanics:

  1. The contest is open to all institutes (SHS, …). It is encouraged that each institute provide 1-2 participants only. It is up to their discretion to choose the 2 participants who will represent their institute.
  2. The contestant shall choose his/her declamation piece. It shall strictly be declamation, not dramatic monologue.
  3. The piece shall be delivered with 3-5 minutes. Every excess of 30 seconds shall be one point deduction.
  4. Attire and/or props should be appropriate to the piece.
  5. Coaches should send a copy of the declamation piece to the committee 2 days before the contest. The piece will be given to the judges for reference.
  6. Coaches and participants should make sure that their setup/location is well-lit and free from distraction or noise that may affect their performance and judging.
  7. The decision of the board of judges is final.

 CRITERIA

The criteria for judging will be as follows:

Overall Interpretation The student declaimer demonstrates mastery of the piece through expressive interpretation and provides the audience with a direct experience of the masterfully crafted literature.

Vocal Aspects The student declaimer employs vocal effects such as varying tone, pitch, volume, and others to reinforce powerful interpretation of the piece.

Costume and Props The student declaimer wears a costume and uses props required in the development of the presented discourse.

Judges Impact The student declaimer succeeds in engaging the judges in the experience through communicative approach.

AWARD

There will be five (5) winners to be announced and they will receive the following:

  • 1st Prize  – 3,000 + E-Certificates
  • 2nd Prize – 2,000 + E-Certificates
  • 3rd Prize  – 1,000 + E-Certificates
  • Two (2) Consolation Prizes – 500 pesos each + E-Certificates
