Digital Oration Contest

A.     Eligibility

Eligible participants must be presently enrolled as First Year to Fourth Year students at Baliwag Polytechnic College.

B.     The Prepared Piece

1. The Oration piece may be original or taken from published materials.
2. Each participant may choose his or her piece but is prohibited to submit an entry, in whole or in part, with lewd and profane languages, and offensive to any group, be it racial, social, cultural, political, or religious.
3. Each participant should submit only one entry that must carry the title. The piece must be relevant to the LIS Month theme: “Outcomes. Outreach. Outstanding: Libraries Beyond Boundaries”.”
   1. Each entry must be computerized with the following format:
   2. paper: white bond paper
   3. paper size, 8.5” X 11”
   4. margins, 1.0” on all sides; justification, align text left
   5. spacing, double line spacing
   6. font, font size, and font style, Times New Roman 12 Regular.

5. The entry must be in PDF and must be submitted on or before November 18, 2021 to eberesford@btech.ph.education
6. The oration piece should be memorized and should be delivered in 5-7 minutes. Notes and cue

cards are not allowed during the contest.

C.     Regulations

1. All contestants must be in the virtual venue before 10:30AM. The contest proper starts at 10:30AM sharp. Failure to join by 10:30AM sharp will result to disqualification.
2. The sequence of presentation shall be determined by the time the contestant joined the virtual room. Contestants shall be referred to by their names and will not be identified by name of their institute (college level) or strand (Senior High School) they are representing until after the last contestant has presented and the judging has been finalized.
3. All contestants are required to use their personal zoom account using their full names registered on their birth certificates.
4. All contestants and coaches should be inside the waiting room of the virtual venue except the first contestant.
5. The contest chairperson introduces each contestant by mentioning the contestant’s name.
6. Only the contestant’s audio and video and videos of the judges and the members of committee are on.
7. The contest chairperson will introduce the judges and the official timer who keeps an accurate time record of each contestant.
8. Timing begins on the first word and stops on the last word uttered. One point deduction from the over-all-score shall be given for every 30 seconds exceeding the time.
9. Selection of winners will be based on the following criteria:
   1. Vocal Delivery (30%)
      1. Clarity of Speech: Degree to which words are clearly articulated and understood
      2. Diction and Pronunciation: Degree to which words are properly pronounced
      3. Consistent Volume Control: Degree to which contestant controls variation of pitch andaudibility; projection
      4. Fluidity of Speech: Appropriate use of pauses, punctuation, intonation, modulation of tone
   2. Emotional Delivery (30%)
      1. Pathos: Degree of passion with which the speech is delivered
      2. Emotion: Degree of emotional expression; variation of emotional expression
      3. Element of Persuasion: Degree of conviction demonstrated in the delivery of the speech
      4. Engagement of Audience: Degree to which speaker is able to maintain the audience’s interest
   3. Physical Delivery (30%)
      1. Gestures, Poise and Posture: Appropriate use of hands, body, facial expressions; demeanor
      2. Mobility: Appropriate use of space in delivery
      3. Eye Contact: Degree to which visual connection with audience is maintained
      4. Tempo: Appropriate rhythm is established and maintained
   4. Mastery (10%)

10. Three winners shall be awarded at the end of the contest proper. Each winner shall receive a cash prize and a Trophy. All participants shall receive Certificates of Participation.
    

    1st Prize:	Php3,000
    2nd Prize:	Php 2,000
    3rd Prize:	Php 1,000
    2 Consolation Prizes:	Php 500 each

11. Each institute is required to send (1) one participant in this digital contest including the BTECH SHS Department.

D.     Tabulators

The contest chairperson will appoint (2) twofaculty tabulators from the Institute of Arts and Sciences. It is their responsibility to review thejudges’ score sheets to be certain that they are fully tabulated and signed before being submitted for final tabulation.

E.     Judges

Judges play a vital role in an oratorical contest. Their qualifications are carefully considered, as their decisions are final and must be reached without bias. Impartial judging is the key to fairness and success of the contest.

F.     Venue

 The link for the Zoom Meeting will be provided the day before the contest proper.Please adhere to the IATF Health Protocols such as Social Distancing,  disinfecting etc. during rehearsals and during the virtual competition.
